Message your staff

Chat with a staff member, start a group conversation, and send a message about a specific shift.

Messages is where you talk to your team inside Shiftly, so shift conversations stay with the roster instead of scattered across personal phones. Open it from Messages in the main navigation.

Who this is for

Owners and managers using the Shiftly web platform.

Before you start

  • You need the Messaging permission. If Messages isn't in your navigation, ask your owner to turn it on — see Sharing access.
  • Staff read and reply from the Shiftly Me app on their phone.

Find your way around

The left column lists your conversations, newest activity first, with a search box and three filters:

  • All — every conversation you're part of.
  • Unread — just the ones waiting on you.
  • Groups — group conversations only.

Select a conversation to open it on the right. Before you've picked one you'll see Select a conversation.

Start a conversation

Choose the kind of message

Select the New message (pencil) button at the top of the list. Pick one of three types:

  • Chat — a one-to-one conversation with a single staff member.
  • Group chat — a conversation with several people at once.
  • Announcement — a one-way message to your team; see Announcements & polls.

Pick who it's for

Search your team by name, or scroll the list. For a Chat, choosing a person opens the conversation straight away.

Write and send

Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send. Your messages appear on the right of the thread, theirs on the left, grouped under a day heading like Today.

Beside the message box you can attach a file and reference a shift, so you can point at the exact shift you're talking about rather than describing it.

The header shows whether the person is Online or Offline. Offline just means they don't have the app open — they'll still get the message.
