Clock on and off a shift
Start your shift, take your break, and clock off — and what your location is used for.
Clocking on is how your hours get recorded, and what your pay is worked out from. It all happens from the Home screen.
Who this is for
Staff using the Shiftly Me app on their phone.
Start your shift
Open Home
When you've got a shift on, Home shows it: the current time, your shift times, your position, the cost centre if your workplace uses them, and who else is on with you.

Turn on location, if you're asked
The first time, Shiftly asks for your location — your employer uses it to record where you clocked on and off.

Confirm
Tap Start shift. Shiftly shows you where it thinks you are on a map and asks you to confirm — this will record your current location and share it with your manager. Tap Start shift again to sign on, or Cancel.

While you're on
Once you're on, the card becomes a running timer of how long you've been working.
- Break — your scheduled break shows with its times and a play button. Tap it to start your break, and again to finish.
- Switch cost centre — move to a different job or area part-way through, if your workplace tracks them.
- End shift — clock off when you're done.

Clock off
End shift opens a summary to check before it's saved — please confirm all details are correct. You'll see a timeline of your shift start, your breaks, and your shift end, with your location recorded at the bottom.
Three things you can fix here:
- Your finish time — the pencil beside Shift end adjusts it, for when you're clocking off a few minutes after you actually stopped.
- A break you didn't record — + Add break lets you enter one you forgot to clock, and any break showing Not recorded can be filled in.
- A break you never took — switch on I didn't take a break and your rostered break won't be deducted from your hours.
Notes lets you tell your manager anything about the shift, up to 500 characters.

Worth a look before you confirm — I didn't take a break is what stops unpaid break time being taken off a shift where you worked straight through.
A shift that isn't on your roster
Called in at short notice? Start unscheduled shift on Home lets you clock on without a rostered shift. It records your hours the same way.
Can't clock on? The most common reason is location — you need to be at the venue, with location turned on for Shiftly Me. If you've said no to location before, turn it back on in your phone's Settings → Shiftly Me → Location. If you're at work and it still won't let you, tell your manager: they can add your hours by hand.
